What is a Migraine?
A migraine is a severe headache that is associated with other symptoms such as sensitivity to light and sound, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, etc. Without proper treatment, migraine headaches can last several hours up to several days. Many people suffer from lingering symptoms even after the headache pain has resolved (known as postdrome), and some people even experience symptoms before their migraine attack begins (we call this the prodrome). Migraine sufferers often experience social stigma due to the “invisibility” of their disease, which only complicates their willingness to seek treatment. While migraine is one of the most commonly ocurring forms of debilitating headache, there are over 150 different types of headache, so it is important to visit a qualified specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
